In recognition of the changing workforce within Lymphoedema management and the need to both develop and utilise the skills of band 3 and 4 staff and ensure an appropriate skill mix, in March 2016 the BLS committee tasked the Lymphoedema Assistant and Assistant Practitioners (LAAP) working group to consider the roles of band 3 and 4 staff working in Lymphoedema. The working group are developing agreed job descriptions, competencies, training and resources for band 3 and 4 staff working in lymphoedema (and their managers) and will share these on the website as soon as they are agreed.
Lymphoedema Assistants and Assistant Practitioners Forum
The group has been requested to develop the forums on the BLS website and improve their functionality, we hope to do this in the future, but in the meantime, have opened a Facebook page ‘BLS Lymphoedema Assistant Practitioners’ for band 3 and 4 staff to build a network, share ideas, ask questions and help each other develop their roles within lymphoedema. This is closed group and you need to request to join on the page. Please also spread the word to other assistants and assistant practitioners. We would welcome your ideas on what resources you would like and how the BLS can best meet your needs.
We would also like to encourage all LAs and LAPs to join the BLS and help to improve professional standards of care for lymphoedema patients in the UK. The membership fee for LAs and LAPs is £26.19.
